2K PLASTIC INJECTION MOULDING

2K, also known as two-shot or two-color injection molding, is a process that combines two different plastics or two colors of the same plastic into a single final product using one injection molding cycle. This technique allows multiple functions to be integrated into a single molded part. Thanks to the chemical bonding between the materials, strong adhesion is achieved without the need for chemical pre-treatment of the thermoplastic components.

PLASTIC OVER-MOLDING

Plastic Overmolding is an operation in which two or more mediums are merged to form an ending molded product, plastic over-molding needs to make two separate molds, one is substrate (first mold), the second mold is called over mold , but if the substrate is metal parts or brass parts, this type of over molding we normally call insert molding. .

Application for Overmolding Injection

Overmolding injection molding has a wide range of applications, including:

  • Parts with soft grip handles
  • Window reveal moldings
  • Medical and healthy devices and instruments
  • Knobs for controls, appliances and assemblies
  • Encapsulated electrical components and electronic devices

Overmolding Process

Plastic overmolding has a process in which a certain materials used in injection moulding is molded in a primary plastic mold, and the molded part is taken out and placed in a secondary molding mold to inject the same or another plastic material into overmolding process. Overmolding processhas key factors as below:

  • The chemical or mechanical bonding strength between the polymers is not enough, and the material of single or multiple parts is not completely filled
  • Flashing of burrs on single or multiple material parts.
  •   The injection molding machine must maintain the consistency of injection molding.
